Entering the Red Sox Nation

We spent our weekend touring historic Boston and immersed in one of the oldest settings in America. Walking along the Freedom Trail, we saw the destinations that shape Boston for what it is: The Old North Church and Paul Revere’s house, where the Minutemen shaped the American Revolution, and had some of the fantastic seafood and Chowda that Boston is well known for in the Quincy Market.

Then the Boston game. I’ll make one thing clear: I grew up in a household that lived and died by pinstripes. Any baseball fanatic in my family rooted for the Yankees – and no one else. This is why, when I decided to sport a Boston Red Sox sweatshirt at last Tuesday’s game at Fenway Park – where the Red Sox played the Indians – my mother told me that for the first time in her life, she was ashamed.

All embarrassment aside, when Ruz declared Tuesday morning that he wanted to go see the Boston/Cleveland game that night – I couldn’t help but feel compelled to join…and neither did six more of Viable’s employees! Packing into two cars, we all headed to Boston, where all eight of us did the Wave, ate hot dogs and Cracker Jacks, and root, root, rooted for the home team (well, everyone except for Oscar Ocuto!).

Even though I am, like Oscar, a Yankee fan, I did have to credit the Red Sox fans – they bled red, white, and in some cases – green. Their unyielding spirit, sheer dedication to the home team, and the way they cheered with such gusto made it incredibly difficult not to get caught up in the atmosphere at Fenway!

The Boston Red Sox won 5-4, clinching a spot in the playoffs. Check out our pictures and an extremely funny video clip of random silliness at the game!

**And no, Mom: I’m not burning the sweatshirt.

I’m watching the Red Sox game right now in the extra innings. Although we’re up 2-0, I’m a nervous wreck. I’m really anxious to see them beat the Tampa Bay Rays next.
