Use this great and educational opportunity to learn more about both candidates and make your choice on whom to vote for!

John McCain/Sarah Palin on Disabilities: Policy Notes

  • Senator McCain himself is disabled, as a result of torture during the Vietnam War, when he was a POW (prisoner of war).
  • Alaskan Governor and McCain’s Vice Presidential running mate Sarah Palin recently gave birth to a son, Trig. Trig has Downs Syndrome.
  • The Americans with Disabilities for McCain page on www.johnmccain.com notes that he was instrumental in writing key sections of the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act. It also mentions the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which deals with creating access for disabled people during political campaigns, mainly at polling places. This may mean McCain was involved in the passage of the act.
  • Full link: http://americanswithdisabilities.johnmccain.com/AmericansWithDisabilities.htm
  • On the health care page of the issues section, there is a brief blurb at the bottom about autism. A link leading to a statement on it is found there. It is noted that McCain cosponsored the Combating Autism Act of 2006, and states that as president he will work to advance federal research on autism.
  • “Last month, the House passed the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 by a substantial margin. I support that House bill, and intend to support a Senate version that adheres to the same principles.” – Senator McCain, speaking at the AAPD conference, July 26
  • No specific page on disabilities on www.johnmccain.com.

Barack Obama/Joseph Biden on Disabilities: Policy Notes

  • Both men are not disabled; the same goes for their immediate families.
  • Obama’s Americans with Disabilities for Obama page is more significant than McCain, with entries about his remarks on disabilities, and comments from his people such as his National Disability Vote Director. The full link can be found here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/dahome/
  • The Obama/Biden website has a specific page on disabilities. A captioned video is posted, with Obama speaking about his disabilities plan.
  • Obama pledges, it is noted on the page, to have the Senate ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
  • After the discussion of his plan, a link for a transcript from a January 29 call on his disability policy conference is posted.
  • As for his plan, a link to his plan is provided. The page points out the four parts of his plan:
    • First, provide Americans with disabilities with the educational opportunities they need to succeed.
    • Second, end discrimination and promote equal opportunity.
    • Third, increase the employment rate of workers with disabilities.
    • And fourth, support independent, community-based living for Americans with disabilities.

  1. Mark Says:

Thanks for this analysis. For more, see http://www.specialneeds08.blogspot.com

  2. Paul Chamberlain Says:

Interesting. Obama is telling what he will do. But what has he done already? McCain is telling us what he has already experienced and has done as Palin has with her experience. Hummmm. Makes one think.

  3. Kathy S Says:

This professor compiled information on both candidates and their accomplishments in the disabilities area, along with their plans. It’s very informative, and I especially found this comment interesting:

It strikes me as significant that as far as I can tell the vast majority of those experts and other disability rights leaders are supporting the Obama-Biden ticket.

  4. Neal Golden Says:

I personally think both of these people are horrible candidate. I don’t think Obama have a backbone to do anything against the Russian or Chinese if we go to war. I think our politician sold out the American people by letting these corruption business people destroy this country. We need to protect the American people rights. The Mexican or any immigrants that come over to this country and get pregnant the tax payer have to fit the bills for these people. I am not blaming them to want a better life for themselves but don’t ask the American tax payer to pay for their babies and welfare. This is why this country is going broke. They need to fix the system. We need to butt out of foreign policy in war. It s costing us billion dollars. I am voting for McCain because I feel more secure that he won’t take bullshit from our enemies. I feel bad for the parents who have kids oversea. The truth to the matter nobody win in war.

  5. Neal Golden Says:

I know they indicate the Republican party didn’t help deaf people get jobs. The truth to the matter. Most jobs are being outsource oversea. I know most deaf people who are getting ssi/ssdi will not get off the system because they don’t want to lose the secure income. I feel their should be more government jobs for deaf people. The business world will not give deaf people equal opportunity in most cases. I spoke to a person, who did a survey indicated that a blind person get a job a lot faster than deaf people. I personally believe everyone have their strength to succeed in this world. It’s important that deaf people don’t lose hope.

  6. Robert, AZ Says:

They Quout: “Second, end discrimination and promote equal opportunity”

There is already laws for that out there, yet my wife (deaf) still cannot find a job. Laws don’t do any good and forcing it only makes it worse.

I am voting McCain – Both parties have crappy candidates this time, he is just sucks less than Obama.

  7. Kev Says:

Neal Golden is trying to fooling you, and on Disabilities People? You need be careful to listen of them what they saying. All I know that Democrats not tell you in the truth. I believed that Democrat is failure and not successful. The bible said God love the warrior against the devil that what Republican’s about as in Christ! I am voting for McCain! LOOK-> Senator McCain himself is disabled, as a result of torture during the Vietnam War, when he was a POW (prisoner of war). Careful READ! He is the right for disabilities for deaf people! Obama knows nothing. He is not as American!! He is Muslims! Forget it!

  8. angel Says:

I agreed with Kev ! Mc cain will winner anyway all I know.

  9. Xavier Montalvo Says:

I support for Mc Cain and Sharon. They have good experience and they help the stock market to be improved. Hope better Diabetes s program. Also Senior Citizen’s program better, too
    Xavier

  10. Kev Says:

I agreed with Neal Golden !!! that is the truth ! who want more money on SSI / SDI who deaf people is an idiot! becuase they not go work. They being be lazy ! Go Mc Cain !

  11. American Says:

Come on people! Did you all forget the crap McCain did with Gallaudet BOT? He is on the board for 11 years and only show up to vote maybe 2 or 3 times. Then he quit and support Jane K. Fernandez and NOT support Gally students and faculty. Being Republican does not mean good morals. He cheat on his first wife and then quick marry new wife because she has LOTS of money and help him get more power. Obama is NOT a Muslim. He does have experience with the religion to understand it. Obviously you do not understand it. MOST Muslim people are peaceful. A few are crazy. Same with Christian. Most are nice, some are crazy. No different.

  12. opinionated Says:

Pay attention! you need to read several times till you get the light bulb. McCain won’t give what deaf people needs for equal rights. I am not going to vote… politics suck!

  13. DavidM Says:

Besides the “How well they do with disabled” issue. I’m telling you that McCain’s prediction was right!

    http://infidelsarecool.com/2008/09/16/mccain-bush-tried-to-warn-country-about-fannie-and-freddie-dems-called-it-fear-mongering/

Guess what how much Freddie Mac and Fannie Mac donated to Obama??

    http://blogwonks.com/2008/09/15/obama-got-12600-from-fannie-mae-and-freddie-mac/

    McCain got nothing from them.

I will vote for McCain/Palen because they will take actions what they believe in. Obama/Biden is all talk but no action.

  14. CHAD Says:

you make me laugh for this. Did you know they are both of 33rd freemason member? OFC they are! Most of all politcs or high class ad business people are involed too. you need research about freemason. They are evil period! I cant tell you deep about freemason until you research on internet or buy book. suggest you go buy \the children of the max\ book. You will shock.

  15. KOOL Says:

I AM VOTE FOR MC CAIN! THANK GOD HE IS IN LEADSHIP! I BELEIVED THAT OBAMA NOT HAVE A LEADSHIP! OH MAN YOU NOT UNDERSTAND IN THE WORLD. SAD FOR LIBERAL PEOPLE IS SO SUCH PROBLEM EVERYONE IN THE WORLD. I KNOW YOU NOT CLEVER! LIKE A MORON! THAT IS IT.

  16. Jeff Rosen Says:

    Hi folks -

Barack Obama sent his disability vote director to the DeafNation’s Denver event last Saturday and gave a presentation about his plan to empower people with disabilities. The huge deaf audience in Denver were very enthusiastic about Obama’s interest in their issues and his plan to address them, which you can read about here: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/disabilities/ Obama also had an exhibit booth at theDeafNation event. Obama will continue to send his top representatives to future DeafNation events.

What about McCain? Zero interest and plan for our deaf community.

Obama has a webpage of captioned videos, see:
    http://www.barackobama.com/closedcaptioning/

You can also review a factual Obama – McCain comparison on issues for Americans with Disabilities here:
    http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/dahome
    or here:
    http://obama.3cdn.net/8b346e079dc77a9c0b_hfm6bh4cx.pdf

If you’d like to examine factual information about Obama’s legislative accomplishments, I think the wikipeda entry on Obama is a good source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama , and you’ll see a summary of his record as a state legislator and Senator.

If you’d like to understand more about the false rumors spread about Obama, including his religion, you can check out the facts about him on this neutral website:
    http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/

We must take the time and care to understand the candidates, their records, their plans, and their demonstrated involvement in our community, then vote. The future of deaf people depend on you making the right decision.

    -Jeff Rosen

  17. Ava Fradkin Says:

Thank you for pointing out these important facts about Obama.

  18. Vee Says:

Kev you are a very ignorant person to have said what you did. Him not being American has nothing to do with the facts at hand. ANd even if that was the case of him being Muslim, which he is not, I would think that he would have a better stance on disabilities, seeing as he has one, which is his race! Don’t talk about this you don’t know about! As for the immigration problem the only fault of that is the governments. If they had a stronger hold on immigration issues then we wouldn’t be dealing with the screwed up economy, and the fall of the dollar. if anything they’re letting in the immigrants because they need more workers to give and/or make quick, fast service for the American people. Please people read up on the election a lot of you know nothing about what you preach!

  19. KOOL Says:

    Vee!– Democrats what they believed.
    1. Support for abortion.
    2. Support for gay .
    3. Support for liberal.
    4. Support for Hollywood.
    5. Support for high tax
    6. Not support for church
    7. Support for durgs
    8. Support for immigrants
    9. Support for anti-war
    10. Not support the troops
    11. Support the medical marijuana
    12. Democrats Are the Bad Guys and Decisions!
Democrats stink. Consider what they believe — such as anything Yasser Arafat ever says. And when a mother sacrifices her life in a desperate attempt to free herself and her child from a totalitarian dictatorship, Democrats believe this is a great opportunity to show Fidel Castro’s family values. He probably does have family values, of the Democrat type, about abortion for instance. And there is ample indication that Fidel is a big supporter of “Right to Die” legislation.
Democrats believe in killing babies and old people, and, to judge by their various plans to modify American medical care, they believe in killing everybody else, too. Except for murderers — murderers will get a “time out” and a chance to speak at the graduation ceremony of a prominent liberal arts college. SAD for Dems. no vote for Obama!

  20. Sam Says:

I know several deaf people who personally met Obama – several times since last year. They questioned him about the Deaf rights and were impressed with his open-minded characters, listening skills, and is willing to learn more about Deaf culture. He strongly supports to have more employment opportunities for Deaf people. What about McCain? He hardly spoke about his “disability” and Palin did not mention anything about disability in her GOP speech. Republicans do not want to mention this often ‘cuz they view this as a bad business for them.

Bill Richardson was one of excellent candidates who fully support Deaf people. His record showed that he agreed to provide an additional fund to New Mexico School for the Deaf to have improve buildings while he was Governor of NM. I assure you that Richardson has an influence Obama’s policy on disabilities. Richardson and Obama are smart guys who pick up and learn what is best for Americans. That is a true leader for our nation -and- future of deaf community.

Jeff – Thank you for sharing the web resources! Much Appreciated!

  21. Jeff Rosen Says:

Following on Sam’s comments, I have said that as a disability and deaf advocate, I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Congress and watching McCain and Obama and working with their staff. McCain has a distinguished legislative record, I’ll give him that, but Ive seen him totally being volatile, a real hot head, sometimes vengeful, a history of bitter disputes with colleagues at Congress and often impulsive (see the Palin pick as exhibit a). Hes a great maverick to have in the Senate but would temperamentally be a total mismatch as a President if he lives long enough to finish the term. Obama on the other hand, looks beyond partisanship, consistently takes the high road, has been open and assertive in taking up legislative issues that are important to our people as a whole rather than special interest groups and rich folks.

Based on my direct experience with both of them, not on media comments or my friends’ opinions, Obama has clearly demonstrated the right character and outlook to best pick us up from the ruins of the Bush presidency and get us back on track. Because right now, we need it, that tragic mistake in Iraq, the record deficit, our sinking economy, the huge cutbacks to our domestic programs providing for and protecting the quality of American lives, all of that demands real change to begin happening soon.

    Jeff Rosen

  22. Smith Says:

Since 30 years I voted for Democrats for nothing more money on ssa. They did not real support for deaf people. It is Truth. They don’t care. I had been using on SSI/SSA; Honest I am not happy that SSA/SSI is not enough of money. Its fact that makes me traps which can’t find a job. I determined to vote for McCain. He will help me to find JOB. Stop blame at Palin’s family!
    Thank you

  23. Mark Says:

Please share the website – http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2076576/posts. You should think twice before you trust yourself to vote our best president/vice-president. Please be wise to avoid war or corruption. Good luck!

  24. Dan Dillard Says:

    Paul Chamberlain,

You hit the nail on the head. That is my biggest issue with NoBama. He has no record for the voters to look at. While McCain has a record of accomplishment. It is sad to see some people blindly following Obama without really looking into his record…oh thats right, he does not have one!

    McCain/Palin get my vote.

  25. debby Says:

Both are sucks! McCain does not support Gallaudet, ASL, etc and is never involved to meet what Gally or deaf students need. If his wife is not rich, he would not be able to get what he wants. He failed everything because he supports Prez Bush. Obama attends hateful church for 23 years. Why should he listen to pastor who encourage people to hate Americans? If he can’t change his church so can’t he either at the White house and congressmen.

  26. Dan Dillard Says:

    Jeff Rosen,

I almost got confused. You were describing McCain’s tempermanet and wow it was as if you were speaking of Joe Biden, Obama’s choice for VP. Hmmm so let me understand, you have issues with McCain’s tempermanet being suitable for President..what of Joe Biden? Joe Biden is well known for his rants, temper, and not to mention the fact he has been caught in lies and also what about that 1988 presidental run? Remeber why Biden stepped down? He has actually given a speeech that he copied from a British politican. It might just be me, but Biden being next in line as a president is just as scary os Obama being presdient.

Obama has been a Seantor for how long? 3 years now? McCain has gotten things done and has a record to show for it. Who is Obama? Why does Obama keep so many of his records private? He will not release his college Thesis. He will not release his Occidental College records. He will not even release his birth certficate. What is he hiding? What about Obama attending the church of Rev. Jeramiah Wright for over 20 years while Rev. Wright preached a message of hate towards white people, towards the United States itself? This is the kind of man who should be President of this great country? McCain not only has a proven record, he also served his nation in the Navy and sacraficed. What has Obama done? I mean, other than just “talking”.

  27. Ingrid Says:

C’mon folks, let’s get real! Are you REALLY confident that McCain can clean up the mess that we’re in in 4 years? Yes, Obama is relatively new on the scene, but where has all of John McCain’s experience gotten us? We need GOOD JUDGMENT. McCain is erratic and impulsive. America needs a President who is calm and collected, intelligent and articulate. We don’t need a warmonger President who has no plan to keep us at Peace. Make no mistake about it — Obama/Biden will protect us, but rushing into war with everyone is insane in terms of lives and dollars! During the debate yesterday, McCain said that he wouldn’t EVEN TALK to the President of SPAIN! — Spain???? John McCain’s 20th Century Cold War tactics will not work in this 21st Century Technological world.

Sarah Palin? What can I say? She’s a right wing nut who is under investigation for ethical violations in Alaska, thinks that she has foreign policy experience because she can see Russia on a clear day out of her window, believes in abstinence, but was pregnant when she got married and has a 17 year old daughter who is pregnant, had an affair with her husband’s business partner, wanted books banned from the library, supported a law that required rape victims to pay for their own rape kits, plans to be Vice President with a 5 month old infant who she is (was) nursing, and. . .is a total ditz. Is ANYONE — Republican or Democrat — comfortable with this woman as the potential President?

These are serious times and require serious decisions!

We need SOUND policies right now and this Republican ticket just doesn’t have it. THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE YOU PULL THAT LEVER AT THE POLLS! However, no matter who you vote for, just BE SURE TO VOTE!

  28. Mark Says:

Subject: Top Ten US Cities with highest poverty rate…

The following stats come from an article by Glen Beck of CNN.
What do the top ten cities with the highest poverty rate all have in common?

    Democrat leadership.
    -Detroit , MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1961;
    -Buffalo , NY (2nd) hasn’t elected one since 1954;
    -Cincinnati , OH (3rd)… since 1984;
    -Cleveland , OH (4th)… since 1989;
    -Miami , FL (5th) has never had a Republican Mayor;
    -St. Louis , MO (6th)…. since 1949;
    -El Paso , TX (7th) has never had a Republican Mayor;
    -Milwaukee , WI (8th)… since 1908;
    -Philadelphia , PA (9th)… since 1952;
    -Newark , NJ (10th)… since 1907.

Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

It is the disadvantaged who habitually elect Democrats – yet are still disadvantaged… hmmm…

  29. GOD Says:

GOD likes a Republican. Why? GOD not likes sinner of liberals! GOD is power control over in the world. WE don’t need worrying anything. GOD knows to do. We are happy. God is a good! Amen!

  30. Think. Says:

Just read and think. bible and any other religious texts does not make one moral. I studied their lectures and hot air, but history of voting is important too. I didn’t like what I saw of McCain’s voting history…

After quite some research, it seems to me that McCain is extremely anti-science and have a fairly bad stance on disability. Of course, Obama also have issues such as being a member of that hate church. However, Obama is pretty supportive of science which is extremely important issue for me.

As some of more religious posters, re-read your posts and other religious posts and think on why people usually doesn’t take you guys seriously, especially you, “GOD”.

Ingrid, I largely agree with your post. We live in a different era than it was at McCain’s peak era of 1990s, or before. We must adopt and change tactics in order to keep going as a country, and chiseling away rights is just not the way to go.

Well vote whatever you like, but make sure you understand who and what issues you are basing your decisions on.

  31. Sherry Stephens Says:

Kool, I agreed with you! Also, may I add that I am a NRA (National Rifle Association) life member. I will be very nervous if Obama takes over as president! I love my freedom and America. God bless America!

    MCCAIN/PALIN’08!!!

  32. Reggie Says:

Liberal “Hillary” women hate Sarah Palin !

  33. Richard Says:

In response to Sherry: I am a NRA lifetime member too! Obama wants to take away our weapons. Including hunting, sport and game and target shooting! I know that McCain might not be the best but he supports our second amendment.

  34. Thunderbear Says:

The House at Capitol in Washington D.C. voted “NO” $700 billion bail out. What are you going to do with stockmarket crash down the hole?

  35. Thunderbear Says:

No more borrow home loans from bad mortgage companies. What about other banks such as FDIC?

  36. Roy Barron Says:

hold people, look Obama’s page and they have captions on many of his videos while McCain did not even try to put captions on his videos. which show that Obama does real care about DA people!

  37. Charlie Says:

Deaf just need to watch their commercials: Obama’s have captions; McCain’s do not. That tells you what they think of Deaf.

  38. Jeff Rosen Says:

    Sherry and Richard -

Obama supports the second amendment, and is clearly on record as supporting gun rights including protecting peoples right to purchasing, owning, transporting and using guns and has also made it clear he supports the ability of people to hunt, see for example:
    http://obama.3cdn.net/7d467fe75a3029d7df_hum6injwr.pdf

Its up to folks whether they want to educate themselves before making statements about the candidates. However, theres no benefit to us and lots of damage to the good of our country when people spread falsehoods about them.

    -Jeff Rosen

  39. Jeff Rosen Says:

You might also wish to visit factcheck.org for their information about the distortion of Obama’s position on gun control:

    Jeff Rosen

  40. Doug Carlton Says:

Wake up people!!! McClown is just an old Bush and Palin is “W” in Drag!

And remember…. Jesus would NEVER be a Republican!!!

  41. Think. Says:

Jeff, excellent find. It was an interesting read on how NRA is trying to do.

    Thanks.

  42. Irene Tunanidas Says:

    October 6, 2008

Thanks Deaf Nation for the policy notes re: each Presidential candidate’s stand on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Also…go to http://www.politifact.com and learn where the candidates stand on issues. This website helps an onliner understand who is telling the truth and who isn’t. It is better than http://www.snopes.com.

  43. NoBama! Says:

I’m an Sen. Barack Obama supporter, and I couldn’t see anything changing that, said NoBama 27-year-old friend.

  44. NoBama! Says:

Economic outlook weaker now becuase it help Democrats’s win that is cheat! But they not honest ! Wow Democrat must be in Trouble.

  45. People Says:

Yes I have a NRA lifetime member. Obama wants to take away our weapons. Including hunting, sport and game and target shooting! I know that But!!!!! Why President have a security himself!! you talk out! Can we have a NRA for protect! You can’t stop the NRA! You not understand it. You are insane! Crime out there too dangerous!

  46. bgmaron8 Says:

I don’t care what Obama or McCain support disability. Really it have nothing do with this economy crisis. Worry about Economy first then take care of disability. We don’t need other 4 more years under Bush oppressive regimes that give to McCain. Give me a break!

  47. Philly Says:

We knows Obama will win anyway. I bet .

  48. Jennifer Says:

I truly find it amazing how folks actually believe that Obama would take the guns away. Hello?? Anyone home? The 2nd Amendment in the US Constitution protects one s to bear arms. How is it possible to remove that right from the Constitution? Would take years and years. Just like the 1st Amendment to take your freedom of speech away– has it happened? No. Common sense- do you really think Obama would be stupid to say “Gonna take your gun rights away” That s one of the Republicans’ scare tactics to gun owners as they re desperate to keep their votes for McCain/Pain (purposely removed the “L”).

    Obama for America!

  49. Brion B. Says:

    * This one is a little different.. Two Different Versions! Two Different Morals!*

OLD VERSION: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

    ——————————————-

    MODERN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp
    contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

*Kermit the Frog* appears on *Oprah* with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green.’

*Jesse Jackson* stages a demonstration in front of the ant’s house where the news stations film the group singing, ‘We shall overcome.’ Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper’s sake.

*Nancy Pelosi* and *John Kerry* exclaim in an interview with *Larry King *that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the *EEOC* drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.

*Hillary* gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that *Bill Clinton* appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients.

    The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around him because he doesn’t maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.

*MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2008!!!*

  50. Johnnie Says:

    Jeff Rosen has it right!

Those who support McClain are falling into a trap. Mc dude and Polly’s propose is to seek for a “cure” for your deafness/disabilities. It obviously shows that on their videos, no caption nor subtitles = orals, they want you to “read their lips” and delete the use of ASL.

Obama has more acceptance and provides aids for us to read on their website. Those that can’t read may support McClain, is just the saddest thought.

  51. Just-a-vota Says:

It is really not about disability-this, disability-that.
We are more affected by global effect of either one of the candidates becoming The US President, not the drop-in-the-bucket disability policy. You wil be affected more about their policies which is really beyond their control. They still have to get CONGRESS to run with their ides and enact it into law. So, basically, consider the question:

Who is more presidental? Who will get congress to move America in the right direction for the next generation?

    Someone who attacks, attacks, attacks?

    Who is most arrogant?

Who will conjure more hatread of American overseas?

It’s a matter of educating yourself and looking beyond the rhetoric.

They want to inflame you with negatives SO THAT YOUR JUDGEMENT WOULD BE IMPAIRED.

I am NOT judgement impaired and I fail to see McCain really addressing the issues and HOW he will improve the status quo. The economic failure, the endless war that is not making us any safer.

They asked McCain vital questions. Instead of a straight answer, he goes on to attack the “perceived flaws” in Obama’s well thought-out plans. His own plans remain unexplained.

Truth is, if he really explains it, you will understand it is going to move America further down the ladder rung in world respect. We are already 34th in the list of countries wheren health care is affordable. Yet we are supposed to be wealthier than Colombia which has a better health care plan than America!!!

I was overseas when Obama became the Democratic choice and it was interesting to see foreighners react positively to the news. It felt good to be an American overseas then. The few people I talked to observed that they think there would be less war and less hatread of Americans (thus less terrorism) if international diplomacy efforts – that Obama will attempt – takes precedence over international grand-standing.

As said on “Politically Incorrect” recently, we all might start looking to outsource ourselves to India if the country experience another 4 years of the Republican mess.

By the way can anyone tell me how they are able to bring the gas prices down by one dollar/gallon in one month close to the elections? I cetainly am going to vote and vote to bring sanity to this economy. The only way to do that is to vote for real change that Democrats are going to attempt in the coming 4 years.

  52. oilthepoil Says:

Do not forget when Senator McCain resigned from the Board of Trustees at Gallaudet, he failed to provide the leadership necessary to settle the school president controversey. So much for his style of leadership. If elected, he will be George W. Bush, the sequel. Also, Sarah Palin, as Governor of Alaska, had recently cut funding for the Deaf and the HOH services if I recall.
In any event, don’t forget to vote.

  53. Peachlady Says:

    You are wrong about Palin!

She did not cut the fund.

    Palin

  54. BLACk Says:

WOW Sarah Palin was doing a good Job on SNL! Slam to Obama!
    Mc Cain / Plain 2008!!!

  55. Alison Says:

obama is a socialist, and if you are not familiar with that term, it basically is someone who wants to spread the wealth around. That’s COMMUNISM. Do we want America to be a communist nation?
I don’t think so. Democrats are shady they will not keep promises. I guarantee that Obama will raise taxes through the roof and “Joe the Plumber” will go bankrupt. Research before you vote because this election will decide how your children and your children’s children’s future will be.

  56. Alison Says:

OH YEAH And do you know who Joe Biden really is? PLAYGERIST (spelling??) he stole someone’s work and used it as his own (I’m serious, look it up if you don’t believe me). HE WAS CAUGHT. AND He proposed (FOR NO REASON) that we sent a couple million dollars to Iraq and he DIDN’T EXPLAIN HIMSELF. he just said ‘let’s give Iraq some money’ (not an actual quote!!!) Obama and Biden are NOT THE PEOPLE WE WANT IN OFFICE. VOTE MCCAIN AND PALIN.

  57. BLACk Says:

Democrats are real awful hurting people and bad behave!!! Obama and Biden speaker lied lied. Never CHANGE!! !

  58. Kool Says:

    Obama is Muslim Vs Republican.

    Democrats mess.SAD

  59. Alison Says:

Vote MCCAIN AND PALIN 2008 mccain is not Bush, he never will be!!! Obama WILL TAKE AWAY OUR RIGHTS AS AMERICANS. You say that he can’t take away our guns, and it is against the constitution. well, the democrats fought for the gay marriage bill EVEN THOUGH IT IS AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION. In fact, the Constitution clearly defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. SO Why is there gay marriage then?? Because of the DEMOCRATS.
What about abortion? If you are going to vote for Obama, then you are going to be responsible for killed millions of unborn babies. Can you live with that? It is disgusting.

  60. Kool Says:

I AGREED WITH ALISON! DEMOCRATS ARE OUT OF CONTROL AND NOT THINK OF THINGS RIGHT AS NOT STRAIGHT.

  61. Zel Says:

I was interested in finding out what other people with same / different disabilities were thinking regarding the upcoming election. It seems that there is little difference with the rest of the population – misguided and misinformed when it comes to the matter of negative and over-wrought concepts of Mr. Obama. He voted “no” to the Iraq war – he did not vote to send “millions” of dollars to Iraq.

In complete honesty, I believe that the majority of people are afraid to vote for Mr. Obama owing to the color of his skin – not his policies… and that is just ignorance in action.

Mr. Obama has stated publicly that is not for gay marriage. He does believe that gays and lesbians deserve the equal rights for “union ceremonies.” If you are as intolerant as Alison and Kool, then perhaps you folks should push for an amendment to outlaw Divorce, Spousal Abuse, and Child Abuse.

You can go the the us senate’s website and see how each candidate actually voted on issues and skip the propaganda posted on other websites. Educate yourself and seek truth always.

    Peace ~ Zel

  62. Checkthefacts Says:

Alison: Yes, the truth is in 1987 Biden had used a portion of a of another person’s speech (a British Labor leader). What was not widely reported was that he credited it in the same speech made earlier that week. Look it up.

Palin has been found guilty of abuse of power as governor of Alaska, by her own state legislature.
    Quite a huge difference!

    Look THAT up.

  63. Dan Dillard Says:

    Folks,

I keep reading what Obama “says” what Obama “will do”….but NO ONE cam show what Obama HAS DONE. Name accomplishments. Show me a record of things he has done since he as been in the Senate. Did you know that when Obama ran for the Senate he told voters in Illinois he would make changes when he elected to the Senate? Guess what? Obama has not written one piece of legislation. Do you know what he did do? He snuck in over $900 million in earmarks for Illinois. For those who do not know what earmarks are, they are sneaky requests for funds that are slipped into a bill that has nothing to do with the requested earmarks. For example, a bill is proposed to increase benefits to our soldiers, and someone, like Obama, adds words in the bill that will say something to add $20 million to buy an old apartment building in Chicago. What does that have to do with military benefits? The apartment building seller makes $20 million and usually he or she is a donor to Obama’s campaign. Obama will not even comment on this $900 million in earmarks. This is “Change”? McCain has NEVER asked for earmarks for Arizona. Obama has attended a church for 20 years who has a Pastor that yelled anti-American comments from the pulpit, this pastor, Rev. Wright, also says we deserved what happend to our nation on 9/11. Obama says never heard Rev. Wright say things like this and even defended him. Now Obama has a friend named William Ayers who is a proud domestic terrorist. William Ayers founded a group that set of bombs in the 60’s and 70’s. William Ayers openly admits to this and is proud of it. Now Obama says he does not know William Ayers. Yet, William Ayers hosted a party for Obama when Obama ran for State Senate and William Ayers and Obama served on a committee together that was arranged by Michelle Obama. Again, Obama denies knowing William Ayers. Oh, there is more…did you know a man named Renzo helped Obama and his wife secure land cheaply near their million dollar home? This Renzo also donated to Obama’s campaign. This Renzo is now in jail on various charges? Guess what? Obama denies knowing him too. “Change”? This is “Change”? No, this is the same usual baloney that goes on. Obama is just another politician who will say and do anything to get elected.

Barack Obama is pushing a socialist agenda. He makes it clear he will raise taxes. He plans massive new spending. He plans to take from those who work and give to those who don’t. Be mindful of this simple fact…if you over tax the companies that create jobs, those companies will simply close and move to other countries. We need to stimulate our economy, not tax it. Barack Obama is the worse possible choice.

John McCain has over 25 years of experience. He has a record that shows he actually pushes for change. He has never accepted earmarks and says when he is elected he will veto any earmarks proposed. We do need change, and John McCain is the one who will do it. John McCain has the honor, character, and commitment to make the changes we need.

John McCain is disabled himself. Sara Palin has a disabled son. They both understand the needs of those with disabilities.

My vote goes to ensuring our nations safety and ensuring our economy. My vote is John McCain.

  64. Johnnie Says:

    “…and ensuring our economy.”

Dan Dillard and all the Mc and Polly voters, must have missed the whole deal and assume too much. Mc dude has been behind Bush all along look at the economy today. What change are you proposing? It’s just going to fall into the worse economy crisis ever. Read it up here…

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/06/cnn-poll-obama-advantage-grows/

Obama has the high polls for the better economy!

  65. Kathy Says:

McCain avoided the Gallaudet University Presidency issue by resigning. He knew to get out when he plans to run for United State President. If he is for deaf people, he could have stayed on and listed to faculty and students their issues. He could have learned something. Would anyone be curious and stay in to find out what the problem is? What does that say about his style as future president? Will he listen to the people of the Nation? Will he listen to me and my issues. I wonder and ponder on that.

  66. glen Says:

Republicans WILL NOT help deaf cultures PERIOD! REPUBLICANS LOVE WAR WAR WAR. WE need bring soldiers back home and security our land coast to coast instead other countries. Republican made mistake on iraq issue. NO THANKS FOR ANOTHER 8 years! DEMOCRATS is good for the country. Democrats cherish American peoples than Republican.

  67. YOU MUST CHANGE! Says:

(Washington, DC) The National Coalition for Disability Rights (NCDR) pushed back today against the McCain-Palin campaign for ridiculing the legal rights of people with disabilities. News reports describe McCain-Palin campaign representative Senator Kit Bond (R-Mo), joining Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin at a rally in Rush Limbaugh’s hometown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, mocking Presidential candidate Senator Barak Obama for stating that he’s looking to nominate judges who empathize with “the disabled.”

“It’s Halloween and it seems that Sarah Palin’s mask of support for people with “special needs” is slipping. Despite past pandering to people with disabilities, McCain-Palin are actually opposed to vital disability legislation like the Community Choice Act and they want to appoint judges who will further roll back the civil rights protections of the Americans with Disabilities Act,” declared NCDR’s founder and president, Jim Ward.

NPR’s Nina Totenberg has reported that McCain-Palin’s and conservatives’ “most oft-mentioned prospects” for nomination to the Supreme Court include Ohio Judge Jeffrey Sutton. Sutton was opposed by hundreds of disability organizations when he was nominated by President Bush after successfully weakening the ADA with states’ rights arguments. As a sitting judge, he has recently supported the execution of criminals with developmental disabilities and has undermined the Help America Vote Act(HAVA).

Disability rights advocates are further incensed that the McCain-Palin campaign has reframed this civil rights struggle, one founded in concepts of equality, dignity and self-respect, as an issue of “special needs.”

Disability rights advocate, Steve Gold states, “Yes we need support services. Yes we need inclusive education. Yes we need integrated employment. Yes we need equal rights. This not “special”. These needs are based on us, people with disabilities, equal members of our communities. We are not inspirational nor are we “special”. We are PROUD PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES who should push back when anyone describes us as anything but equal members of our communities.”

The National Coalition for Disability Rights is a nonpartisan nonprofit that does not endorse political candidates. We are a coalition of national, state and local disability, civil rights and social justice organizations united to protect and promote the human rights of children and adults with physical and mental disabilities.

  69. Richard M Says:

I am Democrats. I am fully support OBAMA! I would to say something with issue.

I think McCain doesnt support Deaf people during Gallaudet University President Protest. He never meet many deaf people. And He resign from Gallaudet University Board of Trustee. I dont think McCain will win to be president. I would be scare that if He die in white house office and Palin take over to be president. Palin is a NEW Governor of Alaska for 1 term and She DOESN’T ANSWER AT VICE PRESIDENT DEBATE ABOUT Country. that mean She doesn’t know a lot of country. and McCain never put a Caption on his president candidate commercial.

Obama does good person and he is NOT MUSLIM he is CHRISTIAN. He does support Disability people and deaf people and EVEN HE WAS MEET DEAF PEOPLE AT IOWA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF. What about McCain visit deaf school while campaign trail?? He put his president commercial on Captioned. He can make this American to better and improve. NO MORE WAR.

(MY STATEMENT) I am very very tired to see and hear that over billion troops was passed away from war. THAT ENOUGH WITH WAR. People was very depression, sad, and still cry. I know many family was not very useful because troops was gone to war and not there for parent or family’s birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, new year, valentine, mother’s day, father’s day, and Fourth of July. even when troops died and they was sad and might stopped with holiday since their family who are troops has been died.

OBAMA want stop war and withdrawn many many troops out of Iraq and back to American and REUNITE WITH FAMILY then Family will happy for long time.

PLEASE CONSIDER AND VOTE OBAMA ON NOVEMBER 4, 2008

  70. YOU MUST CHANGE! Says:

I am democrat for many years but I am not happy with Obama what he doing. He lied about his aunt who is immigrating in USA. He not knows her was. He lied! Now I am not considering vote for OBAMA!

Please Consider and vote MC CAIN NOVERMBER 4, 2008

  71. Jeff M Says:

Be careful about assumptions regarding lies; they come in all shapes and sizes. I have seen both candidates do it. One of the big differences is willingness to engage in campaigns smears that distort the truth and avoid the fundamental issues. Did Obama or others supporting Obama run ads about McCain’s affair with Cindy before he divorced his physically disabled wife? There are many things that are either equal or worse that could have been used. While Obama has his faults; IMHO he is more likely to bring change that will benefit all Americans. Health Insurance would certainly make a huge difference for many with disabilities. Regardless it requires efforts of all Americans; not simply Dem. or Rep. It is time to work together.

  72. YOU MUST CHANGE! Says:

Tonigh We believing for an incredible turn out for McCain and my girl Sarah.

  73. Johnnie Says:

Humm who won the presidentual election?

Sorry McClain supporters America has spoken its time for a change….

  74. john Says:

hi from john and i live in las vegas, nevada. i like barrack obama and joe biden. they were very good president and vice president. they very much support disability to get a better job like here in las vegas i have a good job and benefit. also to lowest or tax cut for low income and the middle class. build a road and brige. to help combat against terrorist. to help clean the earth and stop pollution. build a better clean energy future. good luck in 2009 and beyond.

  75. Tina Thomas Says:

As far as all these issues go beyond but only GOD knows and he let this happen because he has already planned this.. however I do really want this to be resolved on some concepts of the issues. Minding me but its a worth of try…
Firstly, Is that I want the social security to approve the income for the disabled on deaf because of their unable to find a job and that their grade level of unable to go to college but also it is entirely unfair that we arent able to get career job such as being a police officer, emc, fire department, be a airpilot, among many of the career jobs that requires to hear and that WE SHOULD GET SOCIAL SECURITY FOR THE AMOUNT AS A CAREER JOBS makes!! because of the living of cost is so extremely high and lot of deaf people are living with their parents can you imagine how hard that is?? being a adult living with parents. Also I think education for school system needs to improve to understand of the level of the deaf children on testing how their grade level on their understanding english because we just cant push them to a grade where they arent never going to be able to understand english fully in the hearing world for their future and for their jobs to communicate..
however that is my main goal. hopefully one day I can be a spokesperson to help the deaf community.
God Bless and continue to PRAY for all the needs of the deaf world.
