Q and A with Motocross Pro Ashley Fiolek

Recently DeafNation had a Q & A interview with Ashley Fiolek, who recently stole the show by winning the Women’s Moto X Super X in California. It was her X-Games debut, she planned to make the debut last year but sustained an injury, but her wait was worthwhile.
See what she has to say:
Q: What obstacles if any did you face in winning this particular event?
A: Well, probably the only obstacle was that I didn’t have the chance to do the race last year because I had a broken wrist so I didn’t have any experience on the track.
Q: Missing this event last year, does it give you the greatest satisfaction for winning this event?
A: Oh yeah for sure, I was even more hungry than last year since I had to sit out but I was so pumped that I won because I’ve been working hard for this.
Q: I hear you text a lot, maybe 1000 times a day! How do you keep your focus on your motocross career, preparing for events while making time to text 1000 times a day?
A: Haha, yeah I text alot because thats the best way to keep in touch with my family, friends and sponsors. Plus, I’m sponsored by T-Mobile sidekick so it really helps me out! It is an awesome sponsor for a Deaf person to have! Usually, before a big race is coming up I don’t text for a couple of days before to have a chance to just focus on the upcoming race!
Q: What did Kicker say about your win!? (smile)
A: Haha, he wanted to see the gold medal and I put it in his neck, he was pumped!
Q: Any comment about DeafNation?
A: Awesome!
I am happy to be a part of it!
Q: Which bike and the brand you like the best and why?
A: Factory Honda Crf250, it is the most amazing bike ever. Everything on it is such good equipment and motor.
Q: Do hearing racers ask you everyday how you handle competing at such an high level as a deaf biker?
A: Yeah all the time
I don’t think I they understand how I can ride without hearing but it doesn’t bother me that they ask and I enjoy answering them!
