The Dallas Association of the Deaf is located on the outskirts of downtown Dallas beneath a Captain Morgan’s billboard. The building is entirely blue, and their freshly paved parking lot is fenced in cast iron. The parking lot is almost empty as we arrived on a Friday night and stepped out in the heat.

We were greeted by Herbert Picou, who served five terms as president for the DAD and now sits on the board for the club. He took us around the rather spacious club house which included a large room with a big screen TV showing the Texas Rangers losing 7-0 to the Boston Red Sox. There was only one fan there staring faithfully at the Television even as Johnny Damon hit his second home run of the game to seal the win. “They’re losing,” I said to the 70-year old woman who was as feeble as she was a Ranger fan. “I don’t care,” she signed, “my favorite.”

She sits in a large room that is used to in playing Cingo, a popular game that is similar to Bingo.
