How has the economic downsides of the fallout affected you and your families?

Some families are safe because their jobs are not affected by the decline of United States economy, but on the other hand there are many families affected by government cuts, Deaf school closings, and an untold number of lost jobs.

We would like to know how the downsides of a declining economy has affected you. We know that those on Social Security benefits are not affected, but they will be 30 years down the road. Those currently working in jobs, or who have recently lost jobs, tell us about it.

Our focus is the fiscal year of 2009, and how the economy has affected all of us since all the foreclosures and mortgage dilemmas, the bank closures, the merges and takeovers, and watching the company executives clamoring for big pay days while the rest of us watch their company woes being spoon-fed by federal money.

Granted, we understand that executives demand the highest pay because of their work into bringing quality and success to the companies, especially at a time when bankruptcies are being filed as often as business permits are being issued.

With that being said, how does the economic perils of this country affect your finances, and your home? Do you feel your jobs are secure, or do you feel like it is turning into a hopeless dilemma?

Said Dan Manning Jr., a Deaf consumer in Northern California, “The current shaky economy depreciates my home equity value due to homes in my area being sold at cheaper prices and the rising costs of gasoline also affects me. Borrowing money is more difficult now.”

Added Manning Jr., “Despite the weakened economy, I will keep my faith, hope, and love.”

Is there a ray of hope at the end of tunnel of the economic journey we are about to take?

Carry on a debate in the comments, and please keep it clean!

  1. Be Prepared Says:

It takes courage for people to come forward and talk about the economic perils, especially those that have been hit hard. The decline in economic is like just any storm we see. It impacts some people more than the others depending on where the nature decides to blow and where it decides to produce hail storm. The best thing we could do is be prepared and build a house that will withstand all sorts of storm. The same is true with financial / economic turmoils. How much it’s going to hurt will depend on how prepared we are and how long we’ve been preparing for this perfect storm. The great depression happens every seventy-five years on the average so if we do our math we will learn that we’re due for one any time now.

Having said this, approximately 20 years ago I became aware of 75 years global depression cycle. My wife and I began preparing ourselves many years ago in anticipation of what was around the corner and surely enough it arrived. We won’t know the magnitude of the recession whether it’s evolving into a great depression or not until after it’s over with. My wife and I engineered a sound plan that would help us become independence from much of what this world has become dependent upon. In short, we aimed for self-sustainable future. This includes buying food in bulks and storing them for long term use. We shifted our employment into home based business whereas we operated our work right here at home. We trained ourselves to learn on-line marketing so that we do not need to travel any where to work or market our products / services. We use our car to drive into town few times each month. It also allow us to avoid upcoming epidemic plague such as swine flu since we require minimum amount of contact with people. We literally use less than $100 in gas money each month, possibly less. For the past fifteen years we’ve also refrained from using any types of financial institutions for any of our purchases. We saved enough money to purchase our home and vehicles with cash. Being debt-free was also a very important part of our plan.

Thanks to long term preparation work we feel quite immune to this economic hardship that everybody’s talking about. We remember being laughed at when we worked hard and stored what little we had while the rest of the people went on spending spree and went to the Disney Land. It reminded us of the Noah’s Ark story as well as Grasshopper and the Ants story. We have no one to blame except ourselves, really, if we think about it.

We feel for those who are suffering and we pray for their endurance, hope and comfort in a time like this. Faith, hope and love are the most commanding force so I thank you for reminding us all. Great blog.

  2. CC Says:

The sad truth is this administration cares nothing about the saving the economy and proves it by adding more and more debt that we as taxpayers will have to pay back. The only recourse we have is to vote these people out of Congress and vote in those that show they are fiscally responsible in their own states and lives.

We pray for those that are affected by this and trust the Lord will get us through these hard times.

  3. John Says:

If more states are fiscally responsible without putting in more red ink, that reduces the need for the federal government to clean up after us by replenishing our banks in giving us an economic stimulus from the United States Treasury, and ultimately, from the taxpayers. It’s up to us to vote for the state governors and Congressmen who not only promise to be more fiscally responsible, but ARE actually. I hope for that wihout cutting the most important programs that serve Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people.

  4. Dan the man Says:

Burning the candle at both ends can be stop unless water is more reachable. This is a metaphor way of saying those who are in needs are asking for help without any retriction and limitation before becoming bare’in bone. Same problem with farmers no water equals no food. We got choices people and the high class people can partipate too. Everybody in this country can end this together; otherwises, the candle at both ends continue to burn until ashes to dust. Positive thinking cap with actions is in urgent need to restore this weak economic!
