Around The World Tour: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Starting with a trip to the famous twin towers of the city of Kuala Lumpur, he travels to Batu Cave and visits a sacred temple on top of a high hill. The Royal Selangor, a pewter factory is visited, where Joel tries his hand at hammering a piece of pewter and meets a deaf worker. At the Kuala Lumpur YMCA, there is a deaf drummers group called the DeafBeat, and Joel interviews two members Yan and Dino, with Koon Wei as interpreter. Afterwards, Joel visits a deaf-owned Laundromat and interviews the owner Shirley before visiting a deaf-run stall at a night market. Joel interviews two owners, Nazirah and Halim, who sell different flavored drinks to customers. Nearby is China Town (Petaling Street) a huge market selling many designer brands, as is famous in this part of the world. Another deaf-owned bakery is found in Kuala Lumpur, and Haslita, one of three partners/owners is interviewed. ABOUT THE SHOW
An around-the-world trip took Joel to seven countries and many different successful Deaf individuals! In just two weeks, No Barriers with Joel Barish traveled via air to spend about two days in each city and truly showcases how empowered deaf people are all around the world. The trip was a positive outlook on the potential of deaf people to succeed in any aspect. No Barriers with Joel Barish would not have been able to complete the trip if it were not for tourism offices in each country. The offices provided Joel with local Deaf tour guides and accommodations to promote their countries, and No Barriers with Joel Barish is always open to new ideas and locations and partnerships with local tourism offices.
